Every rental includes a helmet and a chain lock at no cost, and the scooty is insured and carries a commercial taxi-series plate valid across Uttarakhand. Rental day runs 8:00 AM to 8:00 AM. Deposit is fully refundable when the scooty comes back undamaged.

About the licence — the honest answer
A lot of visitors arrive believing that a scooty doesn't need a licence in India because it's automatic. That isn't true. A 110cc or 125cc scooty is a motor vehicle under Indian law, and riding one without a valid licence is an offence — for you, and for us.
The good news is that a gearless two-wheeler licence is enough for an Activa or an Access. You don't need a full motorcycle endorsement the way you would for a Royal Enfield. If your home licence covers scooters or mopeds, your IDP will show that, and you're fine.
If you don't have a licence at all, we can't rent to you. Some shops in Rishikesh will. We'd rather lose the rental than hand you a vehicle you can't legally ride, on roads with police checks, with no insurance cover if something goes wrong.
What It's Actually Like to Ride Here
Rishikesh is one of the easier Indian towns to ride in. Traffic is slow, the roads inside town are in good condition, and distances are short — Ram Jhula to Tapovan is under fifteen minutes. But it isn't Europe, and a few things are worth knowing before you turn the key.
- The lanes near Ram Jhula and Laxman Jhula are shared. Pedestrians, cows, dogs, luggage porters and delivery carts all use the same space you do, and in practice they have right of way. Ride at walking pace through the market stretches.
- Cows do not move. This is the single most common cause of a scratched rental scooty in Rishikesh. Go around, slowly, with room.
- The Tapovan climb is fine, even two-up. The Activa 125 has enough push to carry a pillion up towards Tapovan or Neer Garh without straining.
- Fuel up in town. Pumps are easy to find on the main Rishikesh side and near Muni Ki Reti. Once you head towards Neelkanth or up the hill roads, they thin out fast. Start full.
- Two helmets, always. Helmets are mandatory for rider and pillion in Uttarakhand and it is enforced. We provide one free — ask us for a second if you're riding two-up.
- Avoid hill roads after dark. No street lighting, blind corners, and free-roaming animals. Inside town after dark is fine. Above town, it isn't.
- Save our number before you leave. Puncture, breakdown, or you're simply lost — message us. Somebody answers.

Where a scooty is the wrong vehicle
We'd rather tell you now than have you find out at 9,000 feet. Don't take a scooty to Kedarnath, Badrinath, Chopta, Auli, Gangotri or Yamunotri. These are 200 to 300 km each way, on steep broken mountain road, at altitude, often in rain. A 110cc automatic has the wrong gearing, not enough ground clearance, small wheels, and no engine braking on long descents — which is the part that actually hurts people. Every season, somebody tries it, and it goes badly.

A large number of the people who rent scooties from us are women travelling alone, and Rishikesh is one of the more comfortable places in India to do it. A few practical things, from ten years of handing over keys.
- Ride in daylight. Inside town after dark is fine. Hill roads after dark are not, for anyone.
- Park where there are people. Outside a café, a shop, a temple gate. Use the chain lock we give you.
- Save our WhatsApp before you ride out. Puncture, breakdown, wrong turn, or a situation you'd just rather have a local voice on — message us.
- Carry a photo of your licence on your phone, and keep the original in a zipped pocket rather than an open bag.
- If you're stopped at a check post, it's routine. Show your licence and ID, stay in the vehicle, be unhurried.
- Tell us where you're going if it's outside town. Not because we'll worry — because if you don't come back by evening, we'd like to know where to start looking.

How much does it cost to rent a scooty in Rishikesh?
₹500 per day for a Honda Activa 125. Rates drop to ₹450 per day for three days or more and ₹400 per day for a week or more. For stays of three weeks or longer we offer a monthly rate of ₹9,000. Fuel is not included.
Do I need a licence to rent a scooty in Rishikesh?
Yes. A scooty is a motor vehicle under Indian law and you need a valid two-wheeler driving licence to ride one. A gearless or scooter-class licence is sufficient — you don't need a full motorcycle endorsement. Foreign visitors need a passport and an International Driving Permit from their home country.
Can foreigners rent a scooty in Rishikesh?
Yes. Bring your passport and a valid International Driving Permit. The process is the same as for anyone else and takes about ten minutes.
Is it safe for a woman to ride a scooty alone in Rishikesh?

Can I take a scooty to Kedarnath or Chopta?
We don't recommend it and we'd advise against renting a scooty for those routes. They're 200 km-plus of steep mountain road at altitude, and a 110cc automatic doesn't have the ground clearance, the gearing or the engine braking for a long descent. For Kedarnath, Badrinath, Chopta or Auli, take a Royal Enfield Himalayan or Classic 350 instead.
Can two people ride on one scooty?
Yes, the Activa 125 carries two comfortably, including on the Tapovan climb. Both of you need helmets — ask us and we'll arrange a second.
Is fuel included?
No. You collect the scooty with the fuel that's in it and return it the same way. The Activa 125 does around 45–50 km per litre, so a full tank covers several days of riding around town.
What if I've never ridden a scooty before?
Tell us when you book. We'll spend ten minutes on the controls and let you do a slow lap of our lane before you take it away. The Activa is automatic — no gears, no clutch, no kick-start. Most people are comfortable within a few minutes.
What happens if it breaks down or gets a puncture?
Message or call us. Inside Rishikesh we'll come to you or send a mechanic. Outside town we'll connect you with someone on your route. Mechanical faults are our problem, not yours.
Do I need to book in advance?
In peak season — April to June and September to November — book two or three days ahead. Off-season, same-day is usually fine. Monthly rentals are worth booking a week ahead because we hold a limited number for long stays.
