Tapovan is the part of Rishikesh where a scooty makes the most difference, and it's where most of ours end up.
The yoga schools are here. So are the cafés, the hostels, and most of the people who came for a two-week course and extended it twice. Tapovan is up a hill, fifteen minutes from Ram Jhula, twenty from the market — walkable once, tedious daily, and genuinely unpleasant in May heat.
A scooty solves it for ₹500 a day, or considerably less by the month.
If you're doing a teacher training
A large share of the people who rent from us in Tapovan are on 200-hour or 300-hour TTC courses — here for three or four weeks, needing to get to class in the morning and to the market in the afternoon.
Rent by the month, not by the day. Thirty days at ₹500 is ₹15,000; our monthly rate is ₹9,000. It includes free servicing during your stay, you keep the same scooty throughout, and you do the paperwork once instead of every few days. You can pay in two instalments.
Riding a scooty in Tapovan
The Tapovan road is narrow and busy. Pedestrians, dogs and delivery vehicles have right of way in practice. Ride slowly.
The climb up from Laxman Jhula is where engine size shows, which is why we stock the 125cc Activa rather than the 110. It carries two up that hill without straining.
Parking is tight. Ask your guesthouse before you book a room, and always use the chain lock.
