Bike on Rent for Mussoorie

Take a bike on rent in Rishikesh to Mussoorie: about 75 km, 2–3 hours each way via Dehradun. No permits, a proper hill-road climb, and an easy day ride or an overnight stop.

75 km

The route: Rishikesh → Dehradun (about 42 km) → Mussoorie (about 35 km more). The road to Dehradun is wide and fast; the climb from Dehradun to Mussoorie is where the riding starts, with a long series of hairpins up to about 2,000 m.

Realistic timing: allow 2 to 3 hours each way. It works as a long day trip if you leave by 7–8 AM and are back before dark. If you want sunset on Camel's Back Road or an evening on the Mall, stay a night and ride back in the morning.

Which bike: a Royal Enfield. The Classic 350 and Hunter 350 are both comfortable on this road, and the Himalayan is the most relaxed over a long day. A 125cc scooty like the Activa can do the climb, but two people with luggage on the long uphill is hard work for it, so we would put you on an Enfield for this trip.

Road conditions: good tarmac all the way. Expect heavy traffic on weekends and holidays, especially on the last stretch into Mussoorie and around the Library and Mall Road areas. A weekday, or an early start, makes the day much easier.

Permits: none. Our bikes carry commercial taxi-series plates and are approved for self-drive across Uttarakhand, so you can ride them to Mussoorie without a checkpoint argument.

What to see: the Mall Road and Gandhi Chowk, the viewpoint at Gun Hill, Camel's Back Road for sunset, Lal Tibba, and Kempty Falls on the road out of town. Parking is tight in the middle of Mussoorie, so park once and walk.

Fuel: fill in Rishikesh or Dehradun before the climb.

Where to stay: Mussoorie has a wide range of hotels and guesthouses. Book ahead for weekends and in May and June.

Season: a year-round ride, with different moods. March to June and October to November are the most comfortable. December and January are cold and can be foggy or snowy. In July and August expect rain, fog and slow traffic, and check conditions before you go.

Going further: Dhanaulti is about 24 km beyond Mussoorie. Read our Dhanaulti route guide for a longer ride, or plan a loop with the Chamba road on the way back.
